When we embark on a new chapter in our lives, we often ask for a blessing.
So, it is fitting that the beginning of Riverside Castle’s story, back in 2005, starts with just that: a prayer and the placing of a Bible into the foundations of its chapel. And on that special day little did Jaco, the visionary behind this extraordinary venue, know that he would be the first to exchange vows here – after all, he hadn’t even met his wife yet. “I tell my wife that we had the most expensive wedding ever, as I built her a castle!” he says with a loving smile.
The Riverside Castle quickly took root in Pretoria East as a popular wedding and events location. A key ingredient to its rapid growth was its unique service offering of customising every event for its clientele.

Countless couples have begun their married lives here, and many memorable moments have been marked in this magical place.
“Every one of our clients has a vision for their events and we have helped clients realise their dreams, as far as we have been able to, by offering tailor-made packages,” says Jaco.
Time has also seen nature embrace the buildings, and the natural fauna and flora has created an intimate forest that cocoons the castle. The cooling wind whispers through rustling leaves, oversized windows, bellow tower and castle turrets. It constantly breathes new life and ideas into the Riverside Castle, including the addition of an informal “Summer Kitchen”, a luxury tented camp, an outdoor podium and a rustic “Fairy Woods”.
“Our experience here is really more of a spiritual journey, and our evolution has been guided by the nature that surrounds us, and the materials that are readily available to us, in order to minimise our environmental impact,” says Jaco. “In fact, every table and bench, every lantern and light that we use within the venue, has been designed and handmade, on site, by repurposing materials we have.”
